Web Page on Responsible Research Has Been Launched

The Responsible Research website is a guide to best practices in research integrity and science communication. The guide is based on articles written by experts. The articles discuss, for example, such themes as research permits, academic publishing and reuse of research materials.

The site has been built as a joint venture by the Committee for Public Information (TJNK) and the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity (TENK). Link to the site: https://www.vastuullinentiede.fi/en.

The Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers Has Published the Results of a Survey on Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers

The Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers makes surveys among its members regularly. In the spring of 2018, a survey on doctoral and junior researchers was published. The survey, written by Antero Puhakka, gives general information about the doctoral candidates and junior researchers working in Finnish universities as well as their working conditions. The survey can be read in English on the web page: https://tieteentekijoidenliitto.fi/files/2598/fuurt_survey.pdf.

Upcoming Events and Conferences

FERA Conference 15-16 November 2018, University of Tampere: Call for Abstracts

You are welcome to present your research at FERA conference in Tampere! In thematic groups participants present and discuss ongoing or finished research on the basis of academic presentations. Each session lasts 90 minutes, and typically one session includes three to four presentations. Abstracts submitted to the thematic groups will be reviewed by thematic group leaders. The group leaders prepare the programme of the sessions together with the conference organisers.

In some thematic groups the language will be English, and some groups are multilingual.

When you are preparing your abstract, please remember:

  • Give your presentation a title.
  • Describe your research briefly: central argument, theoretical background, methods and results if possible. You can use references but you don’t need to add a list of references in the abstract.
  • Write your abstract in the language of your presentation.
  • The maximum length of the abstract is 250 words.
  • Choose your thematic group. You will find the descriptions of the thematic groups here.

Submit your abstract via a form by 24 September. The acceptance of an abstract will be announced by 8 October at the latest.

You can also present your research with a poster. In an academic poster, you briefly illustrate the central points of your research: theoretical background, research questions, data, methods, results and conclusions. The size of a poster is A1 (width 594 mm x height 841 mm) or A0 (width 841 mm x height 1189 mm). Prepare an abstract of your poster (max 250 words), and submit it via a form by 24 September, 2018.

The poster exhibition will be open during the conference at the conference venue. Presenters will mount the posters themselves and remove them after the conference. Presenters are expected to be ready to present their posters during a coffee break dedicated for poster presentations. It is also possible to present the poster in web.
