Register for the FinEd pre-seminar!

Registration is now open for the FinEd pre-seminar 2022, Values Matter in Education and Research – Exploring the Philosophical Foundations of Educational Sciences!

The pre-seminar, arranged ahead of the FERA 2022 Conference ”Multivocality in the Changing World of Education” on 23 November 2022 at the University of Oulu, examines the philosophical foundations of educational sciences, and the values pertaining to conducting educational research. The pre-seminar is targeted for doctoral researchers who wish to deepen their understanding about the philosophical background assumptions as well as ethical practices of the field.

The first part of the pre-seminar will comprise a keynote speech by Professor Katariina Holma (University of Oulu) followed by questions from participants and discussion, and the second part will consist of workshops on the topic, run by Prof. Auli Toom (University of Helsinki) and Prof. Maija Lanas (University of Oulu).

FinEd Online Research Talks

FinEd is launching the FinEd Online Research Talks, a series of talks covering current topics on educational sciences from varied theoretical and paradigmatic standpoints, aimed for the scientific community – PhD researchers, Master’s students, researchers, and other interested parties. Once a month during term-time, professors from member universities will give a talk on their special field of experience. Participation is free – you are warmly welcome!

This spring, we will host two equally interesting, yet quite different lunchtime talks. We will open the series on 31.5.2022 (Tuesday) at 12 noon – 1 PM (EEST) with opening words from the Chair of FinEd Network, Prof. Auli Toom (University of Helsinki) and a talk from Prof. Markku Niemivirta (University of Eastern Finland), on The role of goals in motivation and well-being. On 14.6.2022 (Tuesday) at 12 noon – 1 PM (EEST) Prof. Päivi Rasi-Heikkinen (University of Lapland) will give a talk on the topic Media literacies among senior citizens.

Three further talks are scheduled for Autumn 2022 (dates to be announced). The speakers and their topics include Prof. Niina Rutanen (University of Jyväskylä) on Ethics in research with young children; Prof. Mia Porko-Hudd and Prof. Kristina Ström (Åbo Akademi University) on Special Education and Sloyd Education at ÅAU; and Prof. Annalisa Sannino (Tampere University). Annalisa’s topic will be announced closer to the date.

JURE 2022

The JURE 2022 Conference will take place at the University of Porto, Portugal with the theme of “Unpredictable challenges: Education in a rapidly changing world”. The JURE is an annual conference offering the possibility to meet fellow junior researchers from all over Europe and exchange ideas and experiences. Submission Deadline is 20th of January 2022. Welcome to the Media Education Conference MEC 2021 in Autumn Colors!

MEC is an informal and friendly conference, which participants attend to exchange ideas and information dealing with media education, educational use of ICTs and learning environments. MEC is organized by the Media Education Hub at the University of Lapland. In 2021 MEC will be back to Rovaniemi, this time on the top of Ounasvaara Hill. The conference dates are 28th of September – 1st of October 2021. The theme of MEC 2021 is “Media Education in Autumn Colors”. MEC 2021 also celebrates the 20th birthday of the Media Education Hub.

Uusi, avoin luentosarja digitalisaation tutkimuksesta ihmistieteissä

Tutkijoille on tarjolla avoimia luentoja digitalisaation tutkimuksesta touko- ja kesäkuussa 2021.

Miten tutkijan omaksumat opit ja hyveet toimivat digiyhteiskunnassa? Mitä täytyy ajatella uusiksi ja toteuttaa toisin? Mitattavat minät, tulkitsevat tutkijat -luentosarjassa eri tieteenalojen asiantuntijat esittelevät viimeisintä digiyhteiskuntaan kohdistuvaa yhteiskuntatieteellistä, humanistista ja kasvatustieteellistä tutkimusta erityisesti innovatiivisista teoreettisista ja metodologisista näkökulmista käsin.

Luentosarjalla käsitellään tuoreita, monitieteellisiä ja tieteidenvälisiä tutkimusnäkökulmia ja -menetelmiä, joilla tutkijat ovat tarttuneet elämän ja tutkimuksen digitalisoitumiseen. Avoimet luennot on suunnattu erityisesti yhteiskuntatieteellisten, humanististen ja kasvatustieteiden alojen tutkijoille. Puhujina on digimaailmaa, datafikaatiota ja algoritmejä ihmistieteellisestä näkökulmasta tarkastelevia alansa asiantuntijoita ympäri Suomen.

Kaikille avoimen ja maksuttoman luentosarjan järjestää Itä-Suomen yliopiston DigiSociety-tutkimusyhteisö.

Zoom-luentosarja toteutetaan touko-kesäkuussa 7.5.11.6.2021, perjantaisin klo 13.00–15.00.

ITK-tutkijatapaaminen siirtynyt syksyyn 2021

FinEd-verkoston artikkelityöpajan kanssa yhteistyössä toteutettava ITK-tutkijatapaaminen on siirtynyt syksyyn 2021. Lisätietoa tapahtuman nettisivuilla.

ITK-tutkijatapaaminen eli Doctoral Consortium tarjoaa väitöstutkijoille mahdollisuuden esitellä tutkimustyötään turvallisessa, ystävällisessä ja kannustavassa ympäristössä. ITK-tutkijatapaamisella on neljä tavoitetta:

  • Tarjota aika ja paikka, jossa tohtorikoulutettavat voivat esitellä tutkimustaan ​​ja tavata muita väitöstutkijoita.
  • Tarjota kokeneempien tutkijoiden ja muiden tohtorikoulutettavien palautetta ja näkökulmia väitöstutkijoille.
  • Tukea tutkijoiden kansallista verkostoitumista ja yhteistyötä institutionaalisten rajojen yli.
  • Tarjota foorumi mahdollisten tulevien tutkijakollegoiden tapaamiseksi.

Call for the EERSS 2021 Summer School (dl 31.1.)

The EERA Summer School 2021 will be held online 14 – 16 June and will be organised by the University of Jyväskylä, Finland and the Finnish Educational Research Association (FERA). The theme of EERSS 2021 will be ”Beyond the Basics in Educational Research Methodology: Research ethics in educational research”.
